Here is one that just posted on eBay

Does anyone know any more about these figures.  It appears that 100 of these were given away as part of a give-away in Australia.  Either as part of a competition in an Australian Lego Club Magazine, or as a Toys-R-Us give-away.  Or as both.    It also appears that the winners were notified in November 2007 when they received the prize in the mail.

The users were required to submit an entry answering the question “Why is C-3PO Gold?”

The figure is identical to the Gold C-3PO that was given away in the US and Canada, except that it is shrink wrapped in a special card board packaging that was limited to this small production run of 100.

I did add both of these to the price guide as I think that they are two different collectible items and that they both fall into the minifigure category.  I apologize if that is a stretch for a few of you, but it is how I classified it in my head.

Finally, you can see where these fall in the top 100 figures here.

One benefit of this particular packaging is that you do not need to remove it from it package to display it.  I know that I toiled over the decision for about 10 minutes before I opened up my c-3p0 bag and pulled out the minifigure to add to my display case.   However, that was when it was still going for $60-$80 and not $350.

You could even send it to one of the grading authority companies and have it graded on the card as is and wrapped in acrylic for long term display.  I think that would be a sweet addition to any collection.  I have a few graded figures and this one in particular would look really sweet encased in acrylic.

I have been eyeing these up over the past several years as a potential addition to my collection, but they are a little to rare, a little too pricey or they are in Australia and I hate trying to ship things across the ocean that are expensive.  Too many damaged packages over the years.

The outside of the mailer that they arrived in is pretty plain.  Comes with a Lego Postage Sticker in a plain Brown Envelope.  Here is the front.  Just ignore the white block on the front of the envelope.  I covered up the address on the picture.

And the Back of the mailer just has the return address to the  Lego Club Australia.  I wonder if I send them a letter if they will send me one of these?  I doubt it.

The back of the actual card packaging is nothing special either.  It says 2007 Lucasfilm ltd & TM. All rights reserved.  @2007 The Lego Group.  In the bottom corner.

Inside the mailer with the carder figure was the letter shown below.

I believe that these are currently worth between 1000 and 2500 based on what they have sold for in the past.  However given that only 100 exist.  They will go up a little as each one is put into someones collection and is stashed away.  In the Lego world, 100 is a pretty limited number.

  1. Hi, this is DJ Lego posting in my personal FB profile. I’m thinking about selling my lego mini figure collection, and it includes this figure. I have all the poly bags, cloud city boba, NYILove yoda with X-wing, heaps of rare items. PM me via my FB and we can discuss.

  2. I remember getting one of these in the mail when I was maybe 8? Being a kid I didn’t foresee the value it would hold and so I ripped it right out of the box. Pretty sure I lost it when our house flooded in 2010.
