January 2016 Lego Batman New Figure Shown as Part of SDCC Early Access

Today in the WSJ, this image was posted of a new upcoming set that will be released in January 2016 for the upcoming Batman v Superman:  Dawn of Justice movie.  Here is the full picture of the set.

January 2016 Lego Batman Set Early Release Picture

This set will include 306 pieces and two other yet to be named minifigures.    It will retail for $29.99 in the USA.  If you look carefully at the figure, the torso is different and the legs are of the new multiple color ABS plastic variety.  This is a sharp looking figure that should look nice next to my other 20 batman figures.

I spent a little time a few weeks ago playing the US patent website to try to look up the Lego Minifigure Patents that I hear so much about.  However, every time I tried a potential search, I came up empty handed.  I eventually gave up and moved on to other things.  (Lego related of course).

Lego Minifigure Patents

However, tonight while searching for new stuff to add to my collection on eBay, I noticed this auction selling a poster of the Lego Minifigure Patent.  I thought, this has the number on it, (253711) so I should have not problem navigating the US patent website and finding the original.  This is being sold by eBay user posterenvy.   At a price of only $9.00, this is a pretty nice find and I think I am going to pick one up.

I also noticed this one as well that I thought looked pretty neat.

I was incorrect on this assumption.  I still could not figure out how to use the Patent Office Website.  Heck, I was not even sure I was on the correct website.  I almost gave up and then I decided to throw the patent number, 253711, into google and this came up.

Google Lego Patent Search Image 253711

Well I wonder I thought.  I went ahead and clicked on it and it was exactly what I was looking for.  Not only did it have the images that I was looking for, but it also had the links to the US Patent office as well so that I could see the original.  Additionally, it also had links to all patents by the Lego company, all Patents by Christiansen and all Patents by Knudson.  It even had some links to the Patents filed in Canada as well.

After clicking around for a while, I found a few choice images that I thought were interesting and worth saving.

FIG. 7 is a front perspective view in the same position of the toy figure,

FIG. 8 is a rear perspective view in another position of the toy figure, and

FIG. 9 is a front perspective view in the same position of the toy figure.

I also found this Patent # 4205482 which has the following description.

“A toy figure, adapted to be detachably mounted on a base plate pertaining to a toy building set and provided with coupling studs, is provided with a leg assembly comprising a pair of identical leg elements having substantially plane rear faces (calves). Recesses comprising lengthwise extending channels or pairs of holes are provided in the rear faces of the leg elements, and the width of these recesses is substantially equal to the width of the studs of the base plate. The recesses are symmetrical with respect to the lengthwise extending median plane of the leg elements and, in the position of the leg elements wherein their rear faces coincide, the distance between the axes of symmetry of the recesses is equal to the module m of the building set.”

The first embodiment is illustrated in FIGS. 1-7, wherein

FIG. 2 is a side view showing the same figure in a seated position.

FIG. 6 is a similar perspective view showing the front face and the other side face of the leg member.

FIG. 7 is a perspective view showing the leg assembly comprising a pair of identical leg members mounted on the connecting plate of FIGS. 3 and 4.

Lego 4205482 Patent Page 2

The second embodiment is illustrated in FIGS. 8-13, wherein

FIG. 8 is a rear elevation similar to FIG. 1 showing a modified form of the rear face of the leg members.

FIG. 9 is a side elevation of the same FIGURE, partly in vertical section.

FIG. 10 is a sectional view taken on the line X–X of FIG. 8.

FIG. 11 is a sectional view taken on the line XI–XI of FIG. 9.

FIG. 12 is a side elevation, partly in vertical section, showing the figure of FIGS. 8 and 9 in a seated position on a base plate.

FIG. 13 is a rear elevation of the figure shown in FIG. 12.

Then I tweaked the search a little bit to find other figures that the Lego Group has Patented.  I ended up finding way more than I expected.

Here is the attempt to Patent the Lego Pirate I think.

At the SDCC in 2009, Lego gave away or sold (I am not sure) 6 unique minifigure display sets revolving around Star Wars.  I have never seen a full set of these together in one place before.  Additionally, these pictures look great.

These were listed by eBay user art_apples in this auction here.

2005 LEGO STAR WARS TOY FAIR V.I.P. GALA INVITATION LUMINARA UNDULI

I am trying to get a list of all of the Exclusive items that have been given away over the years in one place.  I currently have these links scattered all over the place.

Lego Toy Fair 2005 VIP Gala Exclusive Giveaway Luminara Unduli Front

While checking one of my favorite eBay sellers this morning, I noticed this item that he had a while back.  eBay user Brick Envy gets his hands on some of the nicest items to sell.  “Where does he get his toys?”

Lego Toy Fair 2005 VIP Gala Exclusive Giveaway Luminara Unduli Front Minifigure

This is part of the invitation that was sent to people inviting them to the Lego Booth at the 2005 Toy Fair.  It came in two varieties.  The one above and one that had Anakin instead.  Both of the figure are standard issue and are not unique.  I am not sure of they are glued or just regular minifigures.

Luminara is currently as of this writing sitting at about $25 at number 130 on the top 100 list.

You can see her details here.

Both varieties had light up light-sabers and from previous experience, I know that the batteries are able to be replaced with a little difficulty.

BrickEnvy also has one of these for sale here on Bricklink as well.  It is priced a little higher.

Lego Movie Exclusive Promotional Items – Promotional Tin and 10132 Exclusive Sticker

While looking at eBay tonight, I found two interesting items.  A Promotional Tin with pretty good pictures of the inside and an Exclusive Lego Sticker Kit to make your 10132 Palace Cinema show the Lego Movie.  Bot of these items are currently being sold by eBay user trekgate502.  You may click on any of the images below to go to the eBay auctions for these sets.

Here is the promotional Tin

The Lego Movie Promotional Tin Sealed Front

I have seen the Promotional tin a few times, so this is not anyting new to me.   However, it is still a really neat item.  This tin was given out to the press right before the movie release in 2014.  I believe that about 200 of these exist, but I have not heard and official numbers.

And here is the Sticker Kit

The Lego Movie 10132 Palace Sticker Exclusive

This is a rare promotional item that was given out by Lego.  I do not currenlty know how it was distributed.

Here are a few more pictures of the Promotional Tin.

The Lego Movie Promotional Tin Sealed Back This set includes NINE minifigures including most of the main characters from the Movie. (Emmet, Vitruvius, Wyldstyle, Batman, Bad Cop, President Business, Wonder Woman, Ice Cream Jo, Gallant Guard.)  A few of the figures in this set are unique to this set, but they can be made up fairly easily by taking some of the regular set figures and mixing them up as all of the parts in this set are standard parts.  Therefore, this set does not contain any exclusive minifigures.

The appearance of lord business’s face is slightly different than the manual but matches the reviews for this set online.

These collector tins did not include Wyldstyle’s hood or Batman’s cape.  Wyldstyle’s hood was depicted in the instructions but it was not part of the manufactured set.

Today for your viewing pleasure I have a New York Toy Fair Exclusive 2006 Lego Press Invitation Box.  I found some information about this press kit here.  What I would like to know is if these are undocumented minifigures?  It does not look like green night wing hair is a valid color on Bricklink.  What do you think.

You can see the auction on eBay for this item here.

Lego New York Toy Fair Invitation Press Release from 2006 Inside

This is a very rare piece and it is not documented on BrickLink. Insure how many of these were produced, but they were sent out to the media/press prior to Toy Fair 2006 as the official invite to Lego’s yearly event.  I do know from the research that I did that the item is glued:(
